Pictures

You are welcome to visit and personally inspect vacant apartments at short notice.  To help you decide whether you want to do so, we show you pictures from different apartments and give you further information about the features.  To see more details please click on the picture to enlarge it.

We did and are doing everything to make a good life in these apartments possible.  But pictures of empty apartments are rarely charming and few people have the imagination to see before their eyes what one could do with such a platform.  Therefore we asked a tenant in a not yet renovated apartment whether we could take pictures of her apartment and, I am very grateful to her, she agreed.  We will show you pictures of her apartment room by room right after the pictures of the vacant renovated apartment.  This should give you an idea how much room there is in these apartments and how pleasant a home they could be, even if you should not agree with the style of a particular room.  A great big thank you again to the tenant and you may start dreaming ...

If you are looking for pictures of a specific room please follow these shortcuts: kitchen, living room, second bedroom, the buildings, the land around us.

Kitchen

Healthy food that tastes well is important to me.  So let's start in the kitchen.

Please click to enlarge.Part of good eating is that the person preparing the food enjoys doing so and that he or she has the right tools at her disposal.  Looks should not be a problem here.  All kitchens have solid wood cabinet fronts, mainly oak.  The kitchen appliances are brand new and attractiv to.  Over the kitchen sink you have a window looking out on the court yard and a light.  Over the glass top range you also have a light.

You also have got a lot of space. The total length of the kitchen cabinets along the wall is in the apartment represented by the floor plan over 6m or over 20ft.

The kitchen appliances in most apartments (as in these pictures) are by General Electric, in some by Whirlpool.

They include an over 18 ft³ refrigerator with freezer compartment and "spillproof" glass shelves.  The interior is sparkling like it is in the GE dishwasher with a stainless steel interior.  It should stay attractive much longer than a plastic interior.  Many traditional dishwashers also had the problem that the vinyl baskets cracket and the metal became exposed and started corroding.  This dishwasher has a nylon interior, which should resist cracking, again keeping the dishwasher fit for washing your dishes in a condition that you can feel comfortable with.

The glass top self-cleaning oven by GE is also a beauty.  The glas top is easy to clean. So is the oven, even in between cycles, as it has a hidden bottom heating element.

The appliances made by Whirlpool have the same appeal.

... and that is what it could look like ...

When the door to this apartment is opened it looks friendly and inviting.

please click picture to enlarge itThe tenant is a working mother of two children, a very active and bright boy and a very young and quiet girl.  Despite of all the odds against her the kitchen is always clean and pleasant to look at.  It seems to offer enough space and the right environment to support the three in a good way.

The appliances in the picture do not correspond to the ones in the renovated apartments.  Where the child's chair is parked is normally the spot for the dish washer. The fuse panel is behind the calender. Please bear in mind that the ceramic tiles are different from one apartment to the other as are the profiles of the hardwood fronts of the kitchen.  The layout however is the same in all cases except for that it can be a mirror image. For meassurements please consult the floor plan or the table of meassurements.

Living Room

Please click to enlargeThe living rooms are at the gable ends of the buildings.  This allows for windows on two sides of the room for a lot of light and for privacy as you are not sharing any walls with a neighbour.

The silding glass door leads to a patio on the lower level or a balcony on the upper level.  Depending on the building the door is 5 or 6 feet wide.

The floors are either hardwood or laminate click flooring.

The hardwood floors are oiled to give you a better feel of the wood (instead of the plasticy look of varnished floors).  The laminate floors are a little bit more forgiving to less than optimal treatment.

In this picture you can not get an idea of the size of the room.  The floor plan and accompanying table shows it to be 15.5' by 13.2' or very close to 200 ft² ,  a very good size for an apartment.  This is illustrated by the following pictures of the lived in apartment.

First Bedroom

The first bedroom has two windows in the corner. This is optimal for having lots of light and fresh air without impeding the placement of furniture.

The room is large enough for even a kingsize bed plus additional furniture.

Due to the corner location it has no walls adjoining other units.

Second Bedroom

Please click picture to enlarge it.The second bedroom or office is between the even bigger first bedroom and the bathroom.  Therefore it is protected from most outside noises and also from the noises made by other tenants, except for the one immediately below or above.  But this also means that the other tenants should not hear if a child should start crying in this room.

The room has a closet of the same size as that in the master bedroom. The two inner walls are also the same length.  Therefore it offers lots of space along the wall (as you can see to the tight and below) and even on the side of both the door and the closet there is still enough room for a dresser (buildings 8 and 10 only).

Room for Vehicles (The Garages)

This garage is 8 m (over 26 feet) long and pretty wide too (the car is to the eft of the middle). Please ignore the poor quality of the picture and the dirty car. Our tenants have cleaner cars.
picture of one little car in the big garage

This is not the picture of the garage for the cars for all apartments but of one of the larger garages for a single apartment.  There is plenty of room here.  You can easily park a large car, SUV or a truck plus a toy or two for boys, i.e. ATVs, motorcycles, etc.  One tenant parks two compact cars plus two ATVs (because not only boys like these toys) in one of the smaller garages.  This is perhaps taking it too far though.  ;-)

Pictures of the other rooms to follow.  Please visit these pages again at a later date to see pictures of these as well as more images of the outside of the buildings and the common areas.

The Buildings

The time of year the first two pictures were taken is not a pretty one for outside photography.  But I am sure you want to get some kind of idea what these buildings look like from the outside.  Here is one picture - actually two pictures put together, which also causes the kinks in the hydro and roof as well as building lines ;-) .

The buildings were built 2006/2007 (#10 in the middle and 12 on the right side) and 2008 (#8 on the left).  There is plenty of parking for the tenants of buildings 8 and 12 in the front.  Building 10 has one large garage for each apartment.  In some of these garages you can park a truck plus an ATV or snow mobiles or motor cycles, or two compact cars plus two ATVs (that gets tight though but one of our tenants does it in the winter in a smaller garage) or up to three Smarts plus a canoe and some bicycles.

The stairs and balconies, although still young, did not look nice anymore, therefore we started replacing them and were working on them when the tons of snow arrived in that remarkable December of 2013.  These pictures were taken almost a year earlier and it looks a ot different now as you can see in the second picture.

The Green Spaces

By agreement with the town of Bouctouche (Thank you, Bouctouche, you truly are a great little harbour!) we are maintaining and have the use of 3 acres of land surrounding the buildings.  This gives our tenants as much room to relax and for the children to roam as you can normally have when you own a single family dwelling, but even then this acreage is far more than usual within the city limits and you do not have the hassles of owning when you rent one of our apartments in the garden.

With the help of some of the tenants we reclaimed the land and we are continuing to improve it.  Anybody interested can help us.  It is fun and rewarding.

Trees and Shrubs on Grass Behind Building 12

The green spaces in the East offer a variety of trees and some shrubs for climbing, privacy and just looking pretty.  Some of the trees and shrubs flower and have fruit.  If all goes well, we would like to plant some apple and plum trees and berrie patches for fruits to pick as they ripen.  We would also like to create a garden with scents.

Lots of Open Space Behind Building 8

This area offers room for children to run, play ball, and do cartwheels.  And again it also is just nice to look at because some trees and shrubs were left standing, just not as many as on the lot in the east.  But this is what gives them the different character and allows different use that does not disturb those looking for more quiet.
